BTS is promoting solar/renewable green energy in partnership with NBirt College of Renewable Energy (leading by S P GonChoudhury, Ex-Director of WBREDA, Govt of West Bengal) to boost pondwater for rural Sanitation through solar-micro-pumps and it's the innovative & first time in Eastern India.The researchbased pilot projec was implemented at the BTS-Rural Community Hospital Maternity Unit and supported by the Consulate General of Federal Republic of Germany, Kolkata.
Besides this, NBirt has been supported 2 Govt. -aided High Schools under Kultali Block for supplying running pond water to toilets, especially Toilets for Girls/female teachers. The projects are supported by DST, Govt. of India & West Bengal alongwith a local contribution from these 2 schools.
BTS also has been working in collaboration with ASED-Kolkata under a collaborative project , Green Rhynos Program aided by Tata Steel Processing & Distribution Ltd. & through Global Giving, USA to supply Greenlights/Solar Lamps in studies by poor school children during nighttime in Sunderban areas...these solar lamps are again being used (after use) by the parents of the poor school children to enhance livelihood opportunities or village-level small income generating efforts.
Till date, solar panels with lighting facilities have been given to 4 govt.-aided High School-hostels and 1571 Solar Lamps given to poor school children to replace Kerosene Lamps with Carbon Pollution and severe health-hazards particularly for girl-children/women of Sunderban islands.
TERI, New Delhi has extended their LaBL(light a Billion Lives) project initiative to set up Village level Solar Lantern Charging Stations (SLCSs) where from rural poor people can have accessing Solar Lanterns on daily basis rental of Rs.2.00-3.00 for its sustainability, maintenance & entrepreneour's livelihood scope.
Again, BTS had a temporary scope to jointly work with MLinda Foundation-France,Paris to introduce Solar/green lights(Home Light Systems) through micro-grids(JLG of 7-10 families) aided by NABARD, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy(MNRE)-Govt of India & MLinda India Country office, Kolkata
